Chairman
Al resumed the Chairmanship of the Firm in January 2013, a position previously held from 1996 to 2006. Al was President of NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc. from 1996 until 2000 and was Vice-Chairman until 2003. Prior to returning to Princeton Capital Management, Al was Chairman of Pipeline Financial Group, Inc. Earlier in his career, as a General Partner of Alex. Brown & Sons, Al served as a software analyst where he was designated a First Team All-American analyst. He has served as a Director of a number of companies, institutions and non-profit organizations including Safeguard Scientifics, Comshare, Cognos, Webex Communications, ACI Worldwide, RealPage, EDGAR Online, The Nature Conservancy, The World Economic Forum USA and Johns Hopkins University, among others. Al has also served on a number of government advisory panels including the President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Committee on Homeland Advisory System, Committees on Scientific Communications and National Security and Monetary Authority of Singapore’s International Advisory Council. He has testified before Congressional committees (Joint Economic Committee, House Homeland Security Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence). Al took his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and his MBA from the Wharton School and served as an officer in the US Air Force and the US Air Force Reserve.
John A. Heffern
Co-President, Institutional Platforms & Client
Over his career, John has developed a deep understanding of the banking and financial services industries and was a founder of two funds oriented toward this specialty—a highly rated long-only mutual fund and a long-short alternative investment fund.
He began working with us as a consultant in early 2022 after a 30+ years investment management career that included leadership of institutional investment teams executing multi-billion-dollar small cap and mid cap growth mandates for a variety of clients directly and as sub-adviser. His portfolio management experience spans all market capitalizations from micro-cap to large cap, in growth and value styles, with broad sector exposures.
Concurrently, John serves as an independent director for a NYSE-listed financial institution with membership on its Credit (current chair), Risk, Audit, ALCO committees, as well as past chair of its Corporate Governance & Nominating Committee.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, John earned his BA in Economics as well as his MBA in Finance (Beta Gamma Sigma national honor society in Business Administration).
Joseph A. Cajigal
Chief Executive Officer
Joe is the Firm’s CEO and oversees all aspects of Princeton Capital Management. He is also responsible for managing portfolios for high net worth clients, and is the lead manager of the Firm’s Long/Short strategy offered to private clients. Prior to joining the Firm, Joe founded and was the Senior Partner of Hudson Canyon Investment Counselors. Joe spent over 25 years at Fiduciary Trust, serving as the Executive Officer responsible for the management of Fiduciary Trust Company International’s (“Fiduciary”) domestic mutual fund company, its non-U.S. mutual fund company and its registered broker-dealer. During his tenure, he served as a member of Fiduciary’s Management Committee, Fiduciary’s Executive Committee, Division Executive for the Investors Services Division, President of its Tax Planning and Compliance subsidiary and President of its New York Stock Exchange registered broker-dealer. Joe holds a BA degree in Mathematical Economics from St. Peter’s College.
Hugh A. Fitzpatrick
President
Integral to his focus on client relationships, Hugh is part of the investment team and provides capital markets perspective. Hugh has worked with institutional investors and in capital markets both in the United States and in London for more than 30 years. Prior to joining the Firm in 2006, Hugh was a Managing Director at Wachovia Securities (and successor firms before combining into Wachovia). Before that he was with Alex. Brown & Sons as a Senior Vice President, which included several years as manager of Alex. Brown’s international trading in London. Hugh was also previously associated with Wm Sword & Co., where he worked in fixed income and equity trading and in research. He graduated from Duke University with a BA in History.
Kenneth T. Berents
Investment Committee Co-Chairman
Ken has more than 31 years of investment experience and now serves as the Co-Chairman of Princeton Capital Management’s Investment Committee. He began working with the Firm as an Advisory Director in 2007, while also managing family funds and serving on Boards or Advisory Councils of several corporate and not-for-profit organizations. Previously, Ken was a Managing Director of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, serving as Senior Portfolio Manager and Co-Chairman of the investment committee of the Growth team, which managed over
$25 billion in assets. Prior to that he was the Director of Equity Research for Wheat First Union, now part of Wells Fargo. Earlier in his investment career, he was a senior research analyst with Alex. Brown & Sons, Legg Mason, and Wheat First Butcher Singer, where he was named a Wall Street Journal All-Star Media Analyst. A graduate of Villanova University, Ken also received an MA in Journalism from the University of Missouri. Before entering the investment field, Ken was a newspaper reporter, and named an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow in Economics at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School while working for the Baltimore Sun.
Carl A. Scaturo
Analyst / Co-Portfolio Manager
Carl has over 30 years of investment experience as an analyst and portfolio manager. Prior to joining Princeton Capital Management, he was a Senior Managing Director and portfolio manager at Hudson Canyon Investment Counselors, managing equity and balanced portfolios. He spent 23 years with Fiduciary Trust International as a portfolio manager, providing portfolio management to high net worth individuals and families throughout the country. Carl was also a member of Fiduciary Trust’s Value Research team, a sector co-head of the Healthcare equity strategy group and co-managed the Fiduciary Trust Large Cap Growth and Income Fund. He began his investment career with Citi Private Bank and holds a BS degree in Economics from Southern Connecticut University.
Sam J. Milstein
Research Consultant
Sam has been a consultant in the life sciences to Princeton Capital Management since its inception in 1988. He is currently President of Mortar & Pestle Consulting, a practice servicing financial and pharmaceutical companies. Previously, he was founder and CEO of Fulcrum Pharmaceuticals. He also served as President of Emisphere Technologies. Sam holds numerous patents on physico-chemical mechanisms for drug delivery. He was a chemistry major at City College of New York and earned an MS in Physical Chemistry from University of New Brunswick and a PhD in Biochemistry from New York University.
